I just got CS2 and my photoshop is a little strange. I cannot open anything but psd files. To open a gif, I must open it in image ready, which is awful. When I try to open a .gif file, all of the .gif are greyed out... this is really wack, and I am an experienced user....

On a mac of course

also, lots of my filters are missing

So in PS you go File>Open and the gif docs are greyed-out? In the Open dialog box, do you have it enabled to "All Readable Documents"? (at very top of dialog)

Yes, "all readable documents" is selected....

everything is greyed out.... expect for 1 .gif file. I have about 30 .gif files that are greyed out and it doesn't make any sense.... by the way i was able to open 1 jpeg and all of my .psd files

Are you working over a network? What is your OS?
What does File>Info tell you from Finder about the files? Through Finder Info, try choosing PS as the "open with" app on one of the .gif files grayed-out.

Sounds maybe like a bad install. Maybe try reinstalling AND trashing your prefs. Also in OS run "Repair Permissions" through Disc Utility before AND after installing any software. Also might help to buy a maintenance program, like Cocktail for OSX.
