My computer has recently developed a very annoying problem of turning off. At random intervals. Without any warning.
And of course, in a computer's typical sense of humour, it just did it while my mouse was hovering over the file menu on my way to click save. No joke.
So what I was wondering was, since I lost maybe 30-40 minutes of work, is there any photoshop auto-backup files, or any way to recover them? I don't see any option for it in the preferences, but I thought maybe someone would know something tricky. Sadly no it hasn't got this feature, one suggestion is to create a new folder on desktop (or somewhere) and save regularly as you work, saving the finished pic to it's normal place then simply deleteing the back up copys when you don't need them anymore.
The problem with your computer might be a virus (these sometimes show up as crashes) have you run a good antivirus scan? also try running anti spyware if you have it (adware se and spybot are good) Hope you get it sorted Wayne
I've run Nrton 2002, spy sweeper and ad-aware. Found one regkey and one virus. I don't know a lot about viruses (I try to know a bit about everything, so I don't know a lot about anythingand ) such, but it didn't seem to me that that virus would have done it. i was thinking maybe my cpu temp was creeping up too high. I don't have my cpu temp monitor enabled, so I'll do that and keep[a close eye out. I also though maybe the power supply was not good enough. I've heard that too many drives can overload the power supply. I've got two hard discs, a cd-rom and a dvd burner.
It doesn't seem to be related to cpu usge, though. Happened once while I was photoshopping, once while starting Unreal tournament 20004, once while typing with microsoft word. typing's not cpu-intensive.
If it was a virus in windows, the problem wouldn't ocur if I'm running linux, right? I'll just use linux all day one day, see what happens. Good opportunuty to learn how to install software.
Anyway, I'll just save more often till I get it sorted out.
