Ok, I've seen so many photo montage tutorials I think my head is going to explode; but I have yet to see a tutorial (or even a decent tips and tricks page) on how to do the following (follow the link):

http://www.urban-advantage.com/HTM/23rdave.htm

I want to be able to take an existing photo and add elements to it, remove elements, retouch it, blend it, match colors, match lighting, create shadows, etc. in order to get the Before and After effects you see at the link above. Is there anyone who can give me a comprehensive breakdown of how to do this type of work? I know there are a lot of processes involved in doing this but I don't know where to start or how to organize my work flow in order to get the results I want. Is there a step-by-step tutorial out there on how to do this sort of thing? Once I learn how to add one piece to an existing image and make it look good, I can apply the process to the rest of the image but I just don't know where to start. Thanks in advance for your help. I've heard this forum is the best for anything PS!

Wow, you've taken on a very rough task.
Are you experienced in PS? Unless you are top doggie with this program I'd shy away from this for now. You need to be able to make extractions, apply shading / shadows and manipulate perspectives to the max.
Can't really help you with the whole picture. Since its a matter of building the image... The person that made those probably has (or made over time) clean extractions of trees buildings, people, chairs, rock, cars the works.
Very talented.
I couldn't do it.. perspectives and me aren't the best of freinds.
Good luck,
Lasa

I've begun practicing how to do this. I started by learning how to remove power lines, poles, and other features from an existing image with the clone tool. It's actually worked out quite well. Next I think I'm going to work on perspective and see if I can get that nailed down. Shadows and lighting I think are going to be the hardest part of all this. If anyone has any continuing thoughts on the process for creating such an image, please let me know. I'll post my images as I progress. Thanks!

Ok, so I've been practicing. I've attached the before and after photos to this post for you to look at. Let me know what you think and if I've missed something in regards to lighting, perspective, shadows, etc. When looking at the After image, as the new building extends to the left along the street, I had to copy, paste, and clone to get more than one set of windows on the first and second floors. It was hard and I might not have blended these layers together as well as I could have. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
