Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum and not a Photoshop guru. I was wondering if someone can guide me through extracting handwritten text from a letter with a lot of background noise (it was a letter written in 1909 and xeroxed in 1981...)
I am attaching a sample and would be grateful for any insight.
Luca

Not really an easy way I know of, add a curves adjustment and boost the black, add a hide mask and paint white over the writing to boost just the text. Duplicate that layer and set to multiply. Create a stamp (Ctrl+Shift+Alt+E) and below the new stamp add a new layer filled with white. Now back to the top layer (stamped layer) and add a black hide mask and getting painting with a white brush. You can use the dodge and burn tools set to highlights to assist in the speed.
Now it is on a white background anything darker should be a doddle to remove.
