I have just bought a widescreen monitor: HPLP2475w. It's great, except the out-of-the-box brightness level is ludicrously high. I have tried callibrating it with my trusty old Spyder Pro2. The problem is that the brightness level remains at 90%, which is so bright it hurts my eyes. Turning it down manually is no good as it affects the othet settings. I have contacted HP but they are useless; Any ideas?

Can't you turn down the brightness a bit via the monitor controls and then calibrate it?

Sadly no, as callibration changes all the settings, including brightness. Thanks anyway.
