I play an online game on http://www.conquerclub.com which is basically RISK but with lots of different maps and units. Players are able to submit maps they design, which are both graphics and XML, with gameplay design coming later. The first thing I need is a map. I have a basic sketch of what I want, I just need someone who knows how to make a nice picture for me.
The dimensions are supposed to be around 840x800 pixels maximum, but if it looks really good they will sometimes let people get away with more.
The lines of cyan, pink and mustard-ish are not part of the map, they are for gameplay purposes, as are all the labels and player and neutral dots. A description of gameplay is here http://tecsupport.biz/images/deathrace.txt
Here are some examples of maps that are currently being played:
Thanks for looking, feel free to contact me with feedback or if you wish to be involved.
Dirt track, prison type stone for the towers, catwalk made like, well, catwalk...
The map will be seperated into bonus areas and regions. Some areas will be obvious, like a guard tower. Regions need to have some kind of marker for where troops are going to be located, which means the regions need to be large enough for the circles you see all over the other maps. If the area is already seperated nicely then you can get away with not putting a placeholder (see Circus Maximus below or New World above), whereas Stalingrad and Supermax (above) have regions in bonus areas that are not separated so placeholders are used.
Here are sample numbers that should be able to fit a placeholder:
The track layout, think Circus Maximus (see below), but with darker dirt (from oil) and maybe a few wrecks on the track to make the regions not perfectly even - too much symmetry on the overall map may detract from it's aesthetics. As far as how many track regions:
Quote:
The following are the "golden numbers" lower than 200, which create a drop that in all (or all except 5/7p) forms of the game require two or three territories to be taken from a player before they are disadvantaged due to territory count and happening to not go first: 24-35, 42, 43, 44, 52, 53, 57, 58, 59, 66, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, (78), (79), 80, (88), (89), 104, 114, 115, 116, (138), (139), 140, 141, 142, 143, 160, 161, 176, 177, 178, 179, 186, 187, 188
Where the total number of territories on the map is not equal to one of these "golden numbers", then expect to be asked to create/merge territories or to code some as neutral in order to ensure that the total number of starting territories is balanced for fair play.
So I'm thinking draw a track that looks right, figure out how many regions it has and add that to the current 49 regions in the draft layout. If it isn't one of the above "magic" numbers then put some wrecks/modify the track to get to the right number.
For a legend:
"Control the Warden and all 4 guard towers to win, keep at least 1 track or pit area or die! Watch out for the Warden, he can hit the whole track!"
Pit area (symbol) +1 auto-deploy
+1 for every 3 tracks
Pit Area Guards (symbol) +3 for 3
Guard Tower Bonus (represented by color) +3
Holding Area Bonus (represented by color) +4
Each guard tower and holding area should be a unique color (or outlined uniquely) to make the legend easier to design and for people to understand what needs to be taken for the bonus. The pit areas should be a symbol that could be represented in the legend as it is special. The catwalks should be a neutral color so players don't think they are part of any bonus. The map will need a legend area, using colors and a few words to designate the bonuses (see Tamriel below).
