um a lot of effects an that require this you now duplicateing and mergeing i dont get it and when i do it i cant see if anything is happening Confused its odd i use (ps elements 2.0

its more the problem when i duplicate the layers them merge them nothing happence nothing even if the 2 layers are diffrent

well nothing looks like it's happening. You're just combining two layers to make them one layer. Most times it wont look different, you just won't be able to make changes to one of the layers independently.

I speak with no authority here, so forgive me if I misunderstand, or the keys are different across programs.

Ctrl+Shift+E = Merge all layers

Ctrl+E = Merge the layer selected and the layer below.

There are a few other tricks to do with the layer command, but might not be so useful to you. Linking a blank layer with a Layer Style layer and then merging, makes the layer style 'set' (like rasterizing type).

Theres more but not needed now.

Apologies if PSE2 does not have the same shortcuts, I am unaware as to it's specifics.

Ctrl+Shift+E - Merges all visible layers.

You can go to Layer - Flatten Image to make every layer flattened.

Good on you for using the flatten styles technique thehermit! I always wonder how popular random techniques like that are.
