I'm new to Photoshop. I'm having problems trying to get a one-inch border around an image that I want on a 16X20 canvas.
Here is what I do and what keeps happening.
1. I open the image. I go to canvas size and make that 16X20. The background border appears around the image.
2. Now I want to enlarge the photo so that it will have a one-inch or so border. I go to image and enlarge it, but the canvas size somehow grows automatically of its own accord.
3. If I go back to canvas size, and try to reset it to 16X20, it doesn't take. It just seems to add another 16 inches to the width and 20 to the height.
Can anybody tell me what I am missing? I have taken several photoshop courses and this seems so basic, but things don't seem to do what you tell them to do! I know I should be able to get this! |

#1 Set the image size to 16X 20.
#2 Now go to canvas size and set it to 17 X 21 |

If you want to get it done without straining your brain with any math, then just go to image - canvas size then click on the relative check box. When clicking on this box all numbers will reset to 0 and whatever numbers you plug in will be added all sides. Here is a link to a youtube video that explains exactly how to do that.
