ive never used it in my life. but i wanna learn how to do cool stuff with my pictures. any tips?
the websites ive checked out are all cheesy

I guess it depends what you mean by "cool stuff"? Can you be more specific?
I've always found it fun to cut the heads off people I know and paste them onto other bodies by using the pen tool, a few lighting effects, the stamp tool, and maybe a little color adjustment. When its done you can barely tell its a fake :-)

Here is "something cool" you can try. Lightning. create a new document and fill the background with black. Now do filter->difference clouds->image->adjustment->invert Now do it again filter->difference clouds->image->adjustment->invert. Now your image should look like white lightning bolts. To make it look cooler go to image->adjustments->selective color then in the colors drop down choose neutrals and turn the cyan and magenta up to make the lightning all purpley and turn the yellow down. Now take your eraser tool and set the hardness to zero and erase the background to black and leave a little glow on the edges of the bolt. Now play with the contrast a little and you should have a sweet looking lightning bolt.
