I've got a really old scanner. So old I just finished taking at apart and cleaning the dust off the bottom of the glass. And the light is too bright at the ends, so the sides of anything i scan are really bright. Sometimes a quick gradient-masked asjustment will fix it, others not. So I need to buy a new scanner.

Any suggestions?
i wan to scan negatives, probably of wierd sizes too because my grandma would like a bunch of realy old ones scanned. if anyone has any thoughts, good or bad, I'd be happy to hear them.

I like my Epson 1680 well enough (with trans adapter), but for high quality neg scans, a dedicated neg scanner, like the nikon, is best.

Do you recommend the nikon brand specifically?

I use a Canon scanner, and I'm very happy with the quality of it. Wayne

I have not had a problem with the Nikon... so I guess that's a recomendation. However if you are scanning odd sized negs (larger than 35mm), the nikon you would want would be pretty pricey- around 2,000 USD.

Yeah, I'm not a wealthy person Frown
I used a canon scanner on a mac for a while at school and it seemed pretty good.

I've noticed that on most new consumer-level scanners, the scan takes a while to start up and it says something like "please wait while scanner warms up" Is there any way around this? it drives me nuts because my scanner doesn't do that.
