I am complete newbie to Photoshop and am about to blow a gasket trying to figure this thing out. I'm trying to get my jewelry pics to look the right color but they all have a yellow cast to them. I would like a nice white or soft white background that doesn't distort the actual jewelry. Help!!

Is this better? I lightened it up by using Ctrl+L and dragging the grey, middle slider to 1.75 (might be -1.75, can't remember for sure, whichever's lighter. Then I duplicated the layer, set the blending mode to lighten, and merged down. The second picture is the duplicated layer set to difference, since it looked awesome.
EDIT: Sorry, they're in the wrong order, top one is the freaky version, bottom one is the lightened version.

It looks quite nice - now if I could figure out how you did that I'd be ok! LOL
Thanks for playing with it. I'll see if I can duplicate it with your instructions.

well no luck - I got hung up after going to blending mode - I pressed lighten but I am challenged when that brush comes up! What do I do after that?
sorry - just getting more and more frustrated and I have a deadline!

i dont understand, why you would want to use photoshop, you shoudl learn about white balance, you dont wanna go in and fix every indoor picture, or every picure with flouresent lighting have to go into pshop . . .
this is why your picture has a yellow cast, if you just adjust your white balance to indoor/incandesant/2500 K youll be fine.

Oh, that sounds like a good idea - new camera - still trying to figure it out. I can make great jewelry but the technical side of things is driving me crazy!
Thanks for your input - I'll see if I can figure out how to do that.
