go into curves and pull up the magenta and introduce it into the shadows by clipping the black and maybe a little tinkering with the green channel curve.

I am not beginner to photoshop, but I found your language difficult to understand
1. "Pull up magenta " - are you working with CMYK or is it red channel?
2. "introduce it into the shadows by clipping the black " is it increase or something else?

Clipping the black is basically stopping it from being 255 and giving it a lesser value, by adding colour,or lower values. It will give the blacks in the image a slightly 'milky' appearance.This term may confuse as strictly in photography clipping is turning pixels that are not totally black or white into just that, black or white, it is referring to losing pixel date, as a retoucher it's not what I mean.

AS for magenta, (although the more I look it may be cyan), here's a list I found that will explain the different channel actions/effects quicker than I can, the info you want is at the bottom of the page Channels
