Im creating some textures for a Maya project I'm doing. The images I have right now are .psd's at 1024,1024. Im finding out now that the res might not be high enough to produce good results in maya.

So I want to double the texture file to 2048,2048. But I dont want to lose any of the current detial or have it start to wash out and/or become pixelated. Is there a,filter, tool, plugin, or anything that could atleast aid me in keeping some of the detail? Thanks for all the replies.

There are several applications avaible that do their best to keep detail when resizing images (mainly developed for use in print), but I think they're all made for use with mostly photos. You may still be able to see some difference when you use them on your textures though.

What you can do with Photoshop is to make sure "Scale Styles", "Constrain Proportions" and "Resample Image" are checked when you resize the texture, and try with different methods form the drop-down menu. Check out this guide on enlarging photos for details.

And then there are the other programs. Check out SizeFixer from FixerLabs here, and also try XFile. They're not exactly free, but they are good at what they do.
