Hello. I just thought I'd ask for some advice before getting started since I am a inexperienced Photoshop user.
I want to take photographs of celebrities and put hair on them, change hair styles, change hair colors, etc.
If you take a solid color and draw 1 pixel lines representing hair it won't look real. I want this to look as real as possible.
Does anyone have any advice how I can do this? I want to realistically capture the differing colors/shades in the hair, you know what I mean, I'm sure.
Here's one link to a picture that I would like to start with. I was thinking a Roger Moore's James Bond type of hair style on this guy.

I would try and find another Photo of similar quality, size, and angle.. but with hair...then Scalp and paste it on Aggasi..unless you are a very, very good painter/airbrusher you'll be in for a world of heart ache.
I tried to find a good hair sample to show you but couldn't find one that worked.

Yes, your going to have to clone hair from a similar posed picture, it would be very very near impossible to add hair manually

Funnily enough I saw a set of fur brushes on Adobe studio exchange, they might do a passable job, if you take care. Your best bet is still real hair, I suggest you start collecting head shots from different angles ready. Wayne

EyeCandy 4000 (or 3.01) has a "fur" filter. If you play with the settings, you can get somewhat realistic looking hair. It's a plugin, and I'm sure that there are several other plugins that will achieve similar results.

I'm no artist so the results are a bit amateurish. This was originaly from a Poser Hair tutorial wit a bit of my own variations
CREATING A HAIR BRUSH
1) First open a new image 16 x 16 px 72 dpi
2) Duplicate layer and fill with black
3) Set mode on top layer to DISSOLVE
4) Zoom in as far as you can get
5) Set opacity fairly low so as you have a little less black than white pixels
6) Use the eraser tool set to block and delete all of the black pixels taht are touching each other.
7) Flatten iamge an give it a Gaussian Blure of 1%
8) Define as BRUSH PRESET (Edit> Define Brush Preset) Give it a memorable name
PUTTING ON THE WIG
1) Create a new layer. call it 'Hair 1'
2) Select the newly created brush from the brush pallet
3) In the drop down menu click Brush Tip Shapes and use the spacing slider to set spacing to 1%
4) Select a dark colour for the hair, set a brush size (use the square bracket key) you think will work
5) Start painting in the hair. When you have what you think is right start adding highlights
6)Selct the BURN tool and use the brush shape you have just created. Set spacing (Step 3) and Range to SHADOWS Exposure about 20%.
7) Start burning out a few highlight s using the models existing highlights as a guide.
8) Do the same with DODGE tool. Play about with settings till you get something that looks acceptable,
9) Use the Layer Style to add a drop shadow to the layer
10) Duplicate layer. Call it hair2 and set Mode to SCREEN> Opacity about 60%
11) Set hair 1 layer's mode to HARD LIGHT
These setting will vary with every individual image. so just play around and enjoy!!
