Many of the website are now using a background which looks like 1 pixel small lines running across the page, or dots, etc.
I have tried to replicate this in many ways, but can't seem to get it right.
I have made the image in a larger version and then reduced it down to 1x1 picels, but that only blends everything together.
Does anyone know the trick for this.
I have attached a sample of what I'm talking about. This is larger than 1x1, but most of the ones I have "lifted" are 1x1 and barely visible, but when you add them to a webpage and they tile they become fine lines.
Please help! :-?

to understand how they did it, right click on their page and click View Source.
There are quite a few different ways of doing it, but i'm thinking you're talking about the use of tables.

Thanks for your reply.
I have checked the "Source" and even if a .css sheet was used it is still a made graphic rather than code.
As seen in the examples I posted, these are graphics not code. These images were "lifted" from the pages I was interested in but going to the code and then bringing up the graphic in the address.
There must be a way! :brow:

thanks for your trouble.
One is
http://www.sbpolo.com/club/club.htm
This is the gold stripe above that I already posted. (not 1x1, but larger) and it appears as part of the background below the frames.
Another is:
http://www.lanierbb.com/
and this is the pink background which shows as 1x1 in the source.
There are many more that are using this method, but these are good examples.

Ahh, okay. the 1x1 pixel gif is only a 'clear' one pixel placeholder for the 'cell' in the table. The graphic you see is the tiled background within that cell. Without the clear placeholder, the cell background doesn't display and you are unable to redimension the cell.
Here's a page that may help you understand it. Look into the table row and table cell elements. If you still don't understand after reading that, i'll walk you through it the slow way.

thanks for the site. Most helpful.
I do understand about the "clear" spacers as holders, but what I am interested in is the background that displays in the cells.
this is where the 1x1 pixels are used and then they tile.
It's the graphic itself I am looking to duplicate.
Obviously one can't work with a 1x1 canvas and then fill, etc. So one must start out with a larger canvas, select the colors, and in most cases, there are two colors used to get the striping effect in two-tone, such as in the greenstripe.gif I sent earlier. If placed on a webpage, this becomes a green/black strip after it tiles.
However, when starting with a larger canvas and then reducing it down to a 1x1 at the end, the colors don't display correctly anymore and the striping seems to dissappear.
How is this done so it looks like what you see on the pages?
