Hello everyone,

I'm new to the forums and new to Photoshop. I was wondering if anyone can tell me how the ring wear that makes it look like an old vinyl record sleeve that has the shape of the record worn through was simulated on the record cover below? I have looked EVERYWHERE for an answer! Thank you all for your help!

Well, it's a little tough to help you with the image you posted being deleted, but I'll do my best with what I THINK you need.

my suggestion would be to make a circle using your selection tools. Hold shift to make it a perfect circle. Make sure you're on a new layer too. go to select>modify>border and choose a size of ring you want, depending on the size of your image. now use the fill tool with a light tan color, to simulate worn paper, or whatever colour you need. fill your selection. You should now have a solid and crisp ring. you now need to blur it a bit. De-select your selection, and go to filters>blur>glausian blur. Adjust the amount to your liking or need, but dont go too far, theres still a couple more tweaks you can do. I'd also suggest a filter>noise>add noise, and make it monochromatic, and add just enough noise to make it look a little older. now that you've got it a little more like a worn spot, adjust your opacity (located above your layers) and blending mode (also located above layers). Hope that all made sense.

Also, if you're looking to make vintage things, I'd suggest looking into free grunge textures. Just google "High quality grunge texture free", and pick up what suits your project. Blending options on your texture layers can work wonders.

If you've got any questions about what I've just told you, shoot me a message! Good luck!
