How can I make this picture more striking?

This is from a different shoot of a match being struck to the last post.

Maybe if the background was darker? Dunno how to do that hehe.

Opinions!

hmm. try playing with hue saturation...and balance/ contrast...if you cant find somthing that you like there, maybe try duplicating the layer and setting the duplicate to screen. then play with that layer. etc etc. try that.

How about now? Anything else to change?

I'm getting happier about it now - the grey glow was getting on my nerves hehe.

Nope - This is only meant to convey the workd "strike".

I can't really blur out the box, as it would probably look out of focus.

What do you think?

Focus more on the light being struck. Add glow to the light source. REDO your feather or healing brush to get around the hand, maybe set a lower PX so it doesnt show.

If you really want to convey the word strike, make the light source GLOW! be contrasty about it.

I agree, blur the box using the lasso tool or whatever & maybe desaturate? So the only focus would be the orange light, showing strike is the main subject. Not the match brand like earlier submitted.

p.s. Is this for a class assignment?

Indeed it is hehe.

I kinda like the blurred edges on the hand - it makes it look softer.

I guess it wouldn't look deliberate to others who see it for the 1st time.

Thanks for all your help by the way =)
