I need help resizing images in photoshop cs2:

The image is 2560 x 1920 pixels, when i check image size in photoshop the image is 90.31 cm x 67.73 cm. The image is opening at this size by default, as i have been using a 5mg pixel camera to take the photograph.

Using the bicubic sharpen option I am simply reducing the image size to 60cm x 45cm, but when i am printing off test strips, there is still alot of pixelation.

I would presume that because i am reducing the size of the image that there would be less pixelation but this doesnt seem to be the case. Is there anything that i am doing wrong or could do to ammend this?

Is there any other way of reducing the size of the image, while still retaining the quality?

thanks,,, fitzd

When you change the size are you changing the resolution as well? have a look at the original and it may say 72dpi (or something similar) now resize and look again, for printing you need around 180 dpi minimum really, 72 is fine for the web or viewing on the pc. Wayne

the dpi is not changing from 72dpi when resizing through image size.
what i have tried to do is drag the original image onto a new document that has 200 dpi, then using the free transform tool to resize it manually.
i presume that because the new doc. has a higher resolution than the original this will help maintain the quality???

Try this with a copy of your pic. first untick the resample image box then type in 180 in the resolution box, it will change the imege size but the dpi should mean it will print better, give it a go with a test then, you'll have an idea whether 180s enough or whether you can lower it a bit. Wayne
