Hi there. I a very new to Photoshop and I onl have an older version of the program.

I started using it two(!!) days ago because I wanted a glossy black background. You know, when you look at a new black car it has that glossy shine on it.
I was looking on the internet for a picture of a car that was large enough so it would keep a nice resolution, but I didn t find one.
Then I tried to search on how to do it in photoshop.
A lot of sites told me to do Bevel and Emboss, but it doesn t create the desired effect.
How should I do this?

Can you show a picture or something else what that desired effect would be? It's hard to help someone when he doesn't even show what he wants to archieve...

http://www.meguiars.at/seiten/bild/int_meg/black_car700.gif

There s a gloss on this car and I want to use that gloss as a background image on a website. It should look as if the website was made on the hood of a car. I can t use the photo above cause it has relief in it.
I m still looking for a big picture of a car(black one) which I can use.

Sorry to be unspecific, I m not only a new forum user, but also a new photoshop user.

Okay I got a the idea I think. If I'm right what you want is as follows (just to check whether I'm right about your idea or not): you want to create a background for your website. This background is some sort of glossy background which looks like the shiny gloss of a black car. However you can't use a black car as background because you only want's it gloss. I'm guessing you need to have it seemless as well.

Based on these assumptions I made some glossy backgrounds. I'm still not sure whether this is something you want or not though.

If this is still something you're not looking for you can combine or change them with photoshop. Keep in mind however that most of photoshop's filters are not seamless.

I thank you for your work, but actually I do want the black color with the gloss. Exactly like the car. Like I just printed the text on a seethrough sticker and pasted it on a car door.
However, seeing what you made makes me realize I ll never get it, since I m not good enough with the program. Maybe the easiest thing is just to take a digital camera and take a huge picture of the hood of a black glossy car and use that.
Thanks anyways for the help, was very friendly.

I cheated a bit, I didn't used PS to do that. ;) I mostly use TextureMaker for seamless images. Glad you got something you want.
