I have been wanting to ask this question for years and finally I have remembered to ask it. Choosing fonts for web design is pretty limited so I don't find myself having to deal with it too often but when I want specific fonts in a design this is the work flow I am tired of. I generally choose a font by typing the text I want on the screen first (this is in Photoshop by the way on a PC), then I highlight all the text (ctrl-a) then I hide the highlight (ctrl-h) then I click in the fonts field and using the down arrow watch the font change on the line I type until I get to a font that I like. The problem with this method is I find myself going through all the fonts in my list which is quite a bit and some are similar, some ar serif and others san-serif etc. I would like some way to group them together or put my favorites into a group. Can you do this in PS or do I need a third party plugin or an external program to do this.
Many thanks,

The only way I can think of would be to go to the fonts folder and rename them. Such as all fonts of one similar type with an A prefix, another type with B and so forth. As Windows arranges them alphabetically, PS should show them in that order. |

You are going to have to use a 3rd party program. I have used several and have found that Suitcase Fusion is by far the easiest to work with. i have organized my fonts into as many as 10 categories (grunge, script, serif, sans serif, ancient...etc...)
The nice thing is that you can set fonts individually to install temporarily or permanent and they have automated install plugins for several adobe programs. |

Thanks wvdeerhunter, that is kind of what I was looking for but something actually inside PS would be great. _________________ www.splitlightdesigns.com

You need to find a program that will display all your fonts on your screen at once. Some programs let you type your phrase, and it will show that phrase written in all your different fonts, all on your screen at once, and can clearly be seen (unlike Photoshop). Then you can choose which one you like and go back into photoshop and select the font you want. |

yes i know what you mean... it`s tired to look at the whole list of fonts...
actually to save 1 step.... you just need to write what you want and then just using the character window you can change everything on the text without highlight it, and well yes a 3rd party program is the best option to group and find the font that best fit in your design |
