I am an artist and use photoshop to make prints on my wide format printer. I have a question. I need to have a border of about two inches around my painting in the same color as the background of the painting. In the past, I've cloned the color out to my desired dimensions, but that is tedious and I thought of another way, but need some help implementing it.

I want to open a new window in photoshop of the dimensions I need.... fill it in with the color of the background of the painting, move the painting into this new window, flatten it and print it out.

How do I fill the new blank document with the correct or close color?

Or is this a silly impossible idea?

Thanks.

Maybe I can start posting somewhere other than the beginners section. I did it!!

I just opened the window and with white in it, dragged (drug?) my painting into it and centered it. Choose New Fill Layer from Layers and checked Solid Color and then choose create clipping mask from previous layer. That way I can check to see how close I am. I'll just heal the slight difference between the painting and the bordor.
