Hi all, Hope you can help - I'm sure this is a simple thing. I am designing an ellipical logo in photoshop and want to use it in other programs. How do I get rid of the white background around the shape. I don't want it to show up when I insert the logo in other programs. Thanks. I am saving it as jpeg and inserting as a photo. Is that correct?

Nope. The JPG format does not support transparency. It has to be saved as either PNG or GIF format. (GIF is supported by more applications).
First, get rid of your white background- if you haven’t already. Then Save for Web. Choose GIF or PNG format.

To get rid of white background: (one way, depending on how you created the logo)
If the file is one layer, make sure it is not a “background” layer. Target the layer then go Layer>New>Layer From Background. This will change image so it can have transparency. Now select the white area around the logo. (elliptical marquee-then invert selection, or use the Magic Wand tool.) Now hit delete, White area should be gone and in its place you’ll see checkerboard pattern. Now you are all set! - just go Save For Web and choose proper format.

Hi, I did as you suggested but I can't open the gif in frontpage. It appears to have to be jpeg. or am I doing something else wrong? I did get rid of the white background though - thanks

Hmm… Never used FrontPage (although I have heard a lot of bad things about it ;)) I can’t image it does not support GIF. Look in FrontPage’s help section (search “Import GIF”?)
Good Luck!
