hi im new here n i gotta quesiton. does anyone kno the efffect used in the graphic? i hate briteny lol but i luv the blend..how do u do like the lighting n wut effect is on it..thanks if u can help me..i kno i sound like a newb lol

Hi lost_soul
Try this
1) Image>Desaturate>Duplicate Layer
2) Image > Adjust … At this point slide the black and white point sliders to the centre of the scale til you get a contrasty image. Keep a few greys.
3) Add a layer style (the little black circle with F in it) Gradient Overlay
4) Load Gradients> Spectrum ( this can be found by clicking the little down arrow in the Gradients Bar, then the little arrow pointing to the right) Click >Spectrums>Spectrum
5) Next step is to adjust the spectrum.
Click onto the Gradient Bar. This will open the Gradient Editor. Click on the far left blue box and delete it. Move the Purple slider a little way to left, as with the Magenta and Red. Click Okay. You should be now back to the Layer Style dialogue box.
Set the Angle to about -40 deg and Scale to 146. Make sure that the Align with Layer box is ticked and Style set to Linear.
6) The next step is to blend the gradient with the underlaying image.
Clink on Blending Options Custom
Set blend mode to Saturation – Opacity 100% - Fill Opacity 100% - Knockout None – Tick boxes Blend Clipped Layers in Group and Transparency Shapes Layer. Blend if Gray.
7) Alt Left click on the little black triangle on the Underlaying Layer slider. It should break in two halves. Slide the right hand half to about 130 (0/130)
Do the same with the white one and slide the left to about 170 (170/225)
And that’s about it. You can play around with contrast, slides and layer blending modes until you are happy with the effect. I’m sure there are more ways to achieve the result and hope to see some here.
