I've done this before but I can't remember exactly how I did it. Ok, what I have is an image...over the image I have grey bars which will be used as links. I want the text on top of these bars to appear as though cut out in the bar...so the background image can only be seen through the letters. I can't recall the proper way of doing it. I know you use the wand it leaves it awfully jagged. Please help!

If you hold CTRL and click the text layer it will select your text perfectly. No jaggies or anything.

You won't be able to edit the text once you cut it out of your rectangle though. You'll only be able to edit the actual text layer that you CTRL+clicked. You'll have to recut it out if you make any edits.

That's how I'd do it.
