Hi how are you guys. I am looking to make a dot pattern that consists of evenly spaced dots that are different sizes. I first tried to make patterns of differently sized dots and put each different size on a different layer with the largest on top and then the smallest on the bottom and then where i wanted a smaller dot i would erase the larger dots that were over the one i wanted thus revealing the smaller dot. This would work but i am having a hard time getting the patterns to line up after some are erased. Do you guys have any suggestions? Also do you know how to make a dot pattern off axis, or unhorizontal, on an angle. Hey, thanks for any help you can give. Also, the way this should work out is that some dots will over lap, is there anyway to have the color change when the circles over lap? Thanks.
to get the spacing correct:
I only have one idea for htis: make a ton of guides. if you're working on a humongous image, this could get very tedious, but if yo're doing a small image, it won't be sooo bad. Then switch your brush cursor to "precise" in the preferences. And then click ont eh intersection between guides to amke a circle (brush tool)
a note on guide-making efficency: Set a hortcut for "new guide. Then you can just hit that command with you left hand, and with your right enter your value, then repeat unilt yo're done all vertical guides. Do not attempt to makevhorizontal guides because it takes way too long, so many extra key presses. instead just rotate the image 90 degree and make more verticals, then rotate it back.
about varying sizes- turn on the size jitter int he brush shape dynamics box.
a word o overlapping:
I started on a new laye to make dots. ANy time a dot overlapped, I undid that dot and moved on tot he next one. the result was a layer with no overlpapping dots, but many empty ares where there shoudl be a dot. i then made a new and started again. This time I allowed dots to overlap dots ont he underlying layer but no to overlpa dots on the current layer. I just kept doing this unitl every spot was filled with a dot.
Alternatively you could just make dots in a checkerboard pattern, then do another layer of checkerboard on top, and probably get by with two layers instead of 5 like I got.
to get the colours right:
the reason why I rejected overlapping dots like htis is that now it's very easy to manage the colours where they overlap. In my image I simply set each layer of dots to "multiply". You can try all the bland moes till you find one that works.
if none of hte blend modes will work for you, ie if you want the overlapping ares between teo blue dots to be green, then ctrl-click your botom layer, then ctrl-alt-chift-click your second layer. You now have a selection of where the layers overlpa which you can fill with any colour you like on a new layer. Do not attempt to ctrl-alt-shift-click a third layer unless yo're feelig lucky. hwne I did that photoshop crashed and I lost all my work. Just repeat this proces starting with the secodn layer and ctrl-alt-shift-clicking ont he third to get hte next overlapping area.
Anyway after going htrough that crash an everythign I guess I may as well post my image:
You have just provided me with half an hour's entertainment! LOL. I hope htis si somethign similar to what you wanted.
