Sorry for asking for all the advice but I have just started to try and explore photoshop a bit more to find the full extent of it's ( and my) powers.
Here is my first attempt at colouring a black and white photo-

I amquite pleased with it but think I might have made the flowers a bit too bright. Any tips to make it better?

not bad, ive never done something like that before i cant really be crucial LOL
im impress you managed to get rid of the arm and hand

Getting rid of the hand was easy I just cut and pasted some of the trellis to the right of it then moved it over and lined it up :)

Very realistic looking, not too colourful though, maybe abit brighter, just to add to the realism, but i know its hard, and its very good!

I rather like that style. It looks like old style hand watercolouring of photos

Very nice indeed! A little flat with the color though. Try upping your midtones in your levels, and adding a little saturation to help brighten it up a little. Playing around in curves will give you a little more control over your shadows too.
