Hey peeps, I am aware of this colour shift when saving images for web.

I have a designer resizing, cropping photos, and then saving on PC. When he sends the photos over to me on my Mac there is a big colour shift (photos are much lighter).

Could anyone please explain exactly what he needs to do in order for these photos to look the same as the originals on my computer, basically no lightness shift?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Adam

Hi and welcome to the forum mrwardy. The shift you see is the difference between gamma ranges of Mac and Windows based systems, I won't go on in length - others have done that for me!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamma_correction

If your designer has Adobe Gamma in his Control Panel within Windows he could simply select a suitable profile. Adobe has plenty of help and support available at their site.

Overall though, it is a generally acknowledged fact that there is a shift of colours/gamma between content created for web use between the two systems. Most people bow to the principle of most usage and currently that is Windows, but he's your designer.
