Hi!
I need some expert advice when it comes to choosing the right color profile in Photoshop. I have previously used sRGB, but has recently (yesterday) changed to Adobe RGB (1998), when I've heard that this is a better option.
My screen seems to have no Adobe RGB preset, so now I have chosen the sRGB mode.
Does this solutioin work, or should I instead try to adjust the screen colors manually?
Could it be any kind of conflict when I have it set to Adobe RGB (1998) in Photoshop and another color profile for the screen? (in this case sRGB)
I mostly use Photoshop for image retouching (mostly portrait retouching).

Welcome to the forum canaan77.
Your monitor is only capable of displaying sRGB, so leave that as is. sRGB is pretty much the 'standard' for most devices.
Photoshop colour management will depend upon where you live for a proper set-up (mostly in regards to CMYK output). I am from the UK so I have a European Pre-Press 2 set-up with Fogra 39 selected. If you are from the US then it will be probably North American Pre-Press 2.
As for altering your working space colour profile, I differ than most in that I process most of my files as Pro Photo RGB as it has the largest gamut to work in (even larger than Adobe RGB). This is the reason that normally your working space should be Adobe RGB rather than sRGB because in effect you have more colours to work with.
You really only convert to another working space when your output medium is decided. So if uploading your images to the internet then you would convert your pictures from Adobe RGB to sRGB. If printing then convert to CMYK and so on. If doing any CMYK conversions check the soft-proofing first.
I have included a graph to show you the gamut differences between sRGB and Adobe RGB (sRGB is solid, Adobe RGB is wireframe). It demonstrates what I mean. _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade!
