I have just bought a $3000 Epson printer. the place I bought it from wants $500 to have a guy come out and color calibrate it. I am bummed and out of money.
someone said to access Epson Print Academy for a tutorial.. that sounds great except that it seems to be for PC's..... I have a mac.. Macs are so great for imaging.
Any suggestions?? THanks. |

Which printer, OS, and version of Photoshop are you using?
You should be able to do all your color handling through Photoshop. I doubt you would need a RIP or any calibration of the printer.
Make sure you are using Epson brand inks and Epson brand paper. Go to the Epson site and download the paper profiles for your printer.
High-end printing and color management is difficult and exacting. You have to have all your ducks in a row.
Check out these sites for printing from a Mac to an Epson (both are to 2200 printer, but should be similar enough)

(scroll down to Printing to Epson 2200 from Photoshop CS)
Please post back and let me know how it’s going!

Thank you, Charles. I am running Tiger. 10.4.3. I have photoshop CS and my printer is an Epson 7800. I thank you for your help.
I will check out those websites. |

Envious of your setup…
Just follow the tutorials. You do not need a RIP or the printer “calibrated”.
The main thing is to edit in a good, wide color space, like AdobeRGB. And be sure use Print with Preview and choose the right source space (AdobeRGB) and the correct target space for the paper and printer you are using (e.g. a profile such as Epson 7800 Heavy Weight Matte Paper) and be sure to check NO color adjustment in the printer dialog.
Let us know. Good luck.
Oh...
and before you do any of this, calibrate your monitor with Apple's OS color calibration (System Preferences>Displays>Color>Calibrate), or better, use a hardware "puck" system. |
