Photoshop goes way back, there are many incarnations the latest of which is CS4. Before the CS designation began they were numbered, from 1 up to 7.
CS4 is 11th release of PS.
Each new addition adds more features, but CS2 is still quite a powerful tool. I highly recommend learning all you can with CS2 before you consider upgrading.
I still use CS3 and don't see the need to upgrade. Many people still use even older versions and find them more than adequate for their needs. |

Also be careful not to confuse Photoshop with it's little brother Photoshop Elements. Photoshop is the full version designed for professionals (it comes with a 'professional' price tag), and Elements is the version aimed at the home enthusiast (and is therefore much cheaper but with less features). Elements does enough for most photographers/designers.
Hope that helps _________________ Matt
