It would be more helpful if you post your image, I can see the tones on this image, but I can't help unless I see where you start from.

I think what thehermit meant was posting a picture you would apply the curtain effect to, as the steps will vary on properties of the picture you want to apply the effect to.

Thanks Rarity It was what I meant. I could guess at a limited colour palette on the second image and not quote true blacks in the first image, but.....
