Cs4 Photoshop.

Let's say I'm sketching with the Brush tool, using it like I would sketch with a pencil, meaning that I'm going over the same line a few times trying to get the right shape.

All of a sudden: BLOB! This giant "ink stain" appears! This is driving me bananas!

Please help, or direct me to a thread where this has been discussed.

AND by the way, the same things happen with the Eraser tool. Instead of erasing a fine line, it will erase in an entire blob. Grr...

Thank you from a newbie!

hi,
i am not sure what is happening and not sure what your blob looks like.....

1. is it that the edges are fuzzy?

now you have a few different round brushes.... some will have a hard edge and some will have a soft edge ...

take a look at which one you have chosen or while you have the brush tool picked do a right click and that willdisplay your brush pallet where you can adjust size and hardness or choose a different brush ...

2. also make sure you have your airbrush mode disable...... you should see button at the top...
when en able if your using a soft edge brush if youkeep the left click down tooo long you'll actually see it grow and then when draw it will be smaller line but you got big "blob at the beginning"

hard edge brushes i don't see that kind of results..

This is what happens. I'm on layer 2 for example. I'm tracing over layer 1. I use the brush like I would a real pencil. And when I hit the same line twice, the result is below. This blob crap is driving me bananas.

hi,
it looks like for some reason the brush size increases suddenly..

I have tried to replicate that problem but so far i can't..

i only had one problem where i had a brush started giving me problems and
what i did was reset the brushes.... there a couple of ways to do this

either in your brush pallet or there under the the file menu where you have the brush shown do a right click and you can reset.....

caution... if you have made any custom brush make sure you save them... before resetting

Are you using a graphics tablet or a mouse?

I am happily using a Wacom tablet.

By the way, this annoyance also happens when I use the Eraser tool. I move the eraser over the same area/line twice, just like I would do with a real-life pencil eraser, and then BLOB.

I would start with the basics of re-installing the drivers for my Wacom and resetting all brushes as jerryb has intimated, certainly trashing the preference file for PS.

Then I would start thinking of nib issues or programs or changes recently made to your OS. Certainly check and re-check your brush setup and other options within Photoshop before all of the above.

Have already done the first two, but how does one trash the preference file? Where is it?

Hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift whilst opening Photoshop, keep them held down and it should give you the option to trash your prefs.
