Lately I've noticed that some of my images are not looking too shabby, and I don't KNOW if this is the cause, but it may be.

I was working with an image recently and I was using a keyboard shortcut -- finger slipped, hit the wrong key, you know...

So it sets Photoshop to 8 Bits/Channel as opposed to 16, which is what I had prior. I've tried to set it back to 16 Bits/Channel, but with no luck. I can't seem to get it to stick.

Could anyone help me out?

switchback,

Why do you want to set your images at 16 bits per channel? Were they imported into Photoshop at 16 bits per channel?

The way to change from 16 to 8 bits per channel or visa versa, is to go to Image > mode and then look for the "8 bits/channel" or "16 bits/channel"

It is arguably hard to see, if at all, any visible difference from 8 - 16 bits per channel, except in the histogram.

You can import a 16 bit per channel image into Photoshop, throw it against the wall, stomp on it with your boots, run over it with a Humvee, shoot it with a shotgun, set fire to it, flush it down the toilet, and throw it out the window into the mud, and STILL end up with a very handsome looking histogram.
