Hi

i have seen this great techniqe its the yellow band where it fade from yello to white horizontally, however vertiacally it seems to have a noise gradient from yellow to white.

i have played around with noise and layers with gradients but cant seem to get this my gradinets just seem to fill the whole layer i cant get tthat much control over the gradients and ideas hwo i can emulate this?

thanks

I'd probably use layer masks (see pic) I have overdone the noise for effect to show it, but your is a lot more subtle. I duplicated the bottom layer and added noise, then added a layer mask and painted out what I didnt need (just leaving the strip behind the yellow, you could just fill a selection with noise instead) then I added the yellow with the gradient, then added a layer mask to that layer and used a black/white gradient (on the mask) to hide the yellow and show the noise. wayne thanks for the response

i got lost however,

i am fine with copying the background layer
add noise
paint out (i presuem you mean delete) the noise you dont want to see ie the bit behind the yellow rectangle

create a new layer

then i get lost

what do i need to do with the second layer

if i create a mask and delete the area i dont want leaving a rectangle then fill in the rectangle with yellow then put a grdiant over then all i see is the graident

if i creat a rectangle then a mask then add the gradient i see the yellow noise below but where the noise is yellow it makes the oblong darker yellow so i end up with yello gogin to whit yellow goign to white or yello dark yellow gogin to white

also how did you get your noise to be so granular?

Hi Stormbreaker, no, I'm not deleting the noise, click on the layer mask (on the noise layer) then paint with black(on the big image), it hides the noise, if you paint out too much just switch to white and you can paint it back in, thats the beauty of a mask, you can alter it after.

The last step was add the yellow layer with the gradient, add a layer mask to that layer, set you background and forground colours to black and white (if they are not allready) then click on the layer mask (on the yellow layer) and add a black/white gradient across the image, that will fade the yellow out and show the noise from the layer below.

If you look at the masks on the layers palette you should be able to see where my black/white gradient is. I hope this helps, if not ask me for any confused bits. Wayne

thanks wayne really appreciate you help

still trying this the way you did it,

but ive found another way using your mask technique, if you do two layers both with a yellow to white gradient running purpendicular to each other, then by maskign both of them and using a brush with a low opacity and fill i got the spray pain effect without using noise which seemed to dirty the image i then masked off each one so it faded into the other layer.
