Well, that's an entirely different question!

First question first, what kind of filter do you wish to make that has not already been considered?

Do you have any knowledge of custom convolutions from within Photoshop? It's going to be a tricky time if not. If you wish to dive into the nitty gritty then Filter>Other>Custom and wade in. Experiment by inputting positive and negative numbers in the boxes, also mathematical symbols can be inserted.

I wish I could guide you down the road, but filter creation has remained an arcane dark art to me. Saying that I could probably struggle my way to creating a sharpen filter, but then I stop and ask why I would. Without wishing to put you off, perhaps you should ask the same question. Although knowledge is a worthy thing to pursue. Here's a couple of links to get you started and I am sure you can go on to find more when you have done with the ones supplied.

Basic Convolutions

and here's some links from another forum I spend time on, buckle up, it could get bumpy!

More resources on CC

Without bombarding you with links, you could do worse than do a search of the last link I gave you for the term 'custom convolutions'.

from joy kill to overkill in one easy step ;)

Wow! I see what you guys mean, there’s definitely a lot to consider, perhaps too much for me at the moment. I guess I didn’t realize the magnitude of the question. It’s a broad issue without easy answers and that’s okay because I’m still learning and that’s part of the process. Thank you both for your help, you guys are great!

Out of interest Skyhawk, what was your original intention with the post? Was there a specific goal you had in mind? (I may be clueless, but I know of folk who may have a better idea).
