Hi Jamie,

Method 1:
- In the "New document" dialog (File > New), select "Background Contents:Transparent"
- Type your text and apply it [Ctrl+Enter]

Method 2:
- Add your text
- Open your Layers palette (Window > Layers) - the created text is on a separate layer.
- Drag the "Background" layer onto "trash" button

If you are using opaque image as background:
- Select the image background (e.g. with the Magic Wand Tool)
- In the Layers palette, double-click the "Background" > "OK" (this unlocks the Background layer)
- Click [Delete] key

Thanks!
