Hi from a newbie, nice forum guys!
I would like to know how to do this effect if anyone would be so kind as to advise...
My boss received a Christmas card from the graphic design company we use. It had a picture of a snowy field on the front, with her name 'in the snow'. It looked very effective, as if someone had actually been in the field and dragged their feet to write her name. I tried to recreate it last night but couldn't get it looking that good, mine basically looked like I had dropped 3D text on the snow!
Any tips or recommendations for tools/effects I should use?
Many thanks,
Jason. |

Hi Jason,
- Duplicate the "snowy" background
- In the Layers palette, place the copied layer above the text layer
- [Alt]-click between the 2 layers to create clipping mask (at this point the text is just invisible)
- Select the text layer and play with "Bevel and Emboss" and/or "Inner Shadow" effects
- Set blending mode of the text layer to "Dissolve"

Excellent, many thanks Andrei, can't wait to get home and try it - maybe make some Christmas cards just in time!

wow. I always knew about clipping masks, but never used them. You can do whatever effect you want to the image and text, and its all editable. I am glad i clicked on this this post.
