Let me first point out that I have made rollovers successfully before, as, for instance, seen here. It's not fantastic, not incredibly beautiful, but then again all of my skills and training have been firmly based in the non-digital world. All of the rollovers I've made up to this point have been so painlessly created that, after I complete them, I completely forget the process.

So in making my current problematic rollover image, I took advice from Photoshop's 'How to Create a Rollover Button' tutorial. I've read and reread the steps too many times already and I've done everything correctly.

The image I'm now making has a row of squares which, when rolled over individually, should activate other squares below them. That's the only difference between this that I'm trying to make and all the ones before it (which have had text that is replaced on the over by a different colour in the same position).

Anyway, after I've created the slices and the over states, the rollover only works in 'original' view. The rollover does not work in 'optimized,' '2-up,' and '4-up' views. Which means that it doesn't work at all! Apparently! I figured that one working view was good enough, so I saved it optimized as... and when I viewed the generated HTML document, there were absolutely no rollover states. Just the image. Cut into little functionless bits.

Iøve already remade the whole image three times and each time the problem is equally problematic. I have absolutely no clue whatøs happening. And my keyboard just randomly switched into Danish to top it off.
