I am trying to cut down on the number of commands I have to make in order to save multiple scanned images as jpegs. I often scan a large number of images, one after the other, and I would like to find a way of saving and closing them quickly, rather than having to go through the whole process for each individual file.

The only way I can think of to do this is to tell photoshop to close, in which case it will ask me if I want to save every file I have open. I could then run through them all quickly, accepting the default file names etc, and change the file names afterwards with a re-naming utitilty. However, the default file format which Photoshop offers when closing an unsaved file is .psd. I need to save the files as jpegs. So I then have to manually select this format for each file, dramatically slowing down the process.

Is there any way to change the default file format which Photoshop offers when closing an unsaved file?

Alternatively, is there any better way to quickly save and close multiple scanned images files as jpegs?

I am using photoshop 6.1, Windows XP Pro SP3.
