|
|
Hi all,
I need help to improve the resolution of a picture for publication in a medical journal. It's presently at 190 DPI and I need it at 800. I'm not familiar with photoshop so i'd really appreciate some help.
I can send the original pictures by email.
Thank you so much! |

Welcome to the forum. Go on then I'll bite. Why do you need it at 800dpi? What size are you planning on printing? 12ft or more by the sounds of it. _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

It's a requirement from the editor, they want something with better resolution, no idea why. Any help will be appreciated! |

The long and the short of it is that you will not be able to scale the image up to 800dpi, unless you want to view the image at 15ft away, I am guessing that is not the case.
You are going to have to recreate the image in the dpi and the size that you require.
Please anyone feel free to jump in if you have an alternative view.
If it helps, I have seen on the web .eps maps of the world in that style, so recreating it would be possible if not a little time consuming. _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

800 dpi is a, lets just call it, unusual rewuest for sure. 300 dpi still remains the commercial standard, some artists work at 400 for real fine prints etc..
Best bet would be recreating the map as a vector and scale it up without losing size.. Betting there are line world maps out there enabling the job 75 percent through.
But I se I'm again typing before reading all replies, as thehermit pretty much has said all of this already..
Just out of curiousity, what are dimensions (pixels)of the image you provided to the editor and on what size (cm or inches, yet my people prefer the metric system) would you like to see it printed in your publication? _________________ Bart J.A.H. de Brouwer |

Thx all!
The dimensions I sent in pixels was 1255 x 618. The image on the journal should be about 4 x 7 inches. For some reasons it appears blurry on the journal. I think I can convince the editor to accept 400 DPI. I wouldn't paying someone to help me!
Thx again |

Just ran the numbers here for you:
1255 x 618 at would be just a little over 150 dpi, which is way to low and indeed would result in a blurry image.
Reworking an image to this extend, it might be more beneficial to remake the image (comparing time vs. result).
Went a head and got myself two of those maps thehermit and I were talking about.. converted them to 7 * 4 inches at 600 dpi and saved them as a JPEG. The colour scaling and putting the numbers back in is something that still has to be done.
