Hello Photoshoppers,
I am a photoshop newbie and I need guidance. I have attached a preview image of a website. The header consists of a photoshopped photo which has been overlaid with red color. You see such images forming the headers or backgrounds of many websites. How is an ordinary photo turned into this kind of image? Can you guide me to a newbie friendly tutorial? My understanding is that a photo is converted to grayscale and then overlaid with a color. I am not even sure which technical terms to use
Thanks |

Not quite...
It's more a process of making a solid shape out the objects below a skyline of a picture, and then using the result to create the two tone background.
Do this tutorial first (Using a city skyline not bill gates):
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/photoshop-create-quick-silhouettes/
After you have the completed black and white image as at the end of that tutorial, merge the two layers together, change the layer blending mode to multiply, and then create a new layer of colour underneath.
Play with the transparency of the top layer to turn the black skyline into a darker shade of the bottom layer colour. |

Thank you Auieos for correcting me and guiding me to the tutorial.
This is just what I needed. I had been searching on google for days without actually knowing what to type in for search terms |
