so I edited a lot of pictures and saved them somewhere in my external hard drive, but don't know where, i'm afraid i might have overlaid the folder with a previous version of it… so, my question is, is there any way to see where you've saved your edited pictures, or, does photoshop save it in somewhere else besides the folder that you've "save as…"'ed ? thanks very much!

Usually Photoshop/windows will prompt you before it allows a file to be overwritten.

Search the external HDD using "*.psd" in the search dialog box assuming its a psd file. It will locate all of the files with that extension. Then sort them by date or name and you might be able to find it that way.
