Hello,
I'm new to the world of photoshop so I have been watching a lot of videos on different things like technique etc. Before I ask my question though I would like to state two things, 1) I know that I should prob use video software for what I am about to ask but I teach for a poor school district and I'm using what I got, so please no "You should really use this for what your asking." And 2) I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong area but the thread said "manipulation" and that's what I am trying to do. All right with that aside here is my question. I am using CS5 Extended and I want to import a video clip in and make changes to only a few frames not all of them. When I import in from video to frames I can make the changes I need to the frames I want but the problem occurs when I try to export it back out. The video will export but seems to freeze where I made changes in photoshop then unfreezing when it is past the frames where I made changes. I don't want to open a new doc in PS and change the setting from photo to video or movie because any changes I make will affect all frames and I only want to change a few. Any recommendations. Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

few questions...

Do you use 32 or 64bit version of Photoshop?
Do you use open or import to load the videos into Photoshop?
Are you working in timeline or frame animation?
How are you exporting them and as what file type?
What is it you have been trying to change in these videos?

1) I am not quit sure which version of Ps I am running 32 or 64 but I will look for that.

2) I have tried the file->open way then changing the setting to video instead of photo but that makes changes for the whole thing, all the frames and that's not what I am trying to do. Most of my tries have been with the import video to frames method.

3) I am working with Frame animation because this allows me to see each frame instead of on big timeline.

4) I export the file the same as how I imported it in .mp4 format. I use a file converter for the video before I import it because PS does not support .avi which is the original format of the clip.

5) I am simply trying to change the eye color. I have an actor that looks down and then back up at the camera and I would like his eyes to be green. I teach a film class after school and this is for the secret scene at the end of the film so I really need to figure out how to do this. I don't know if you ever saw the newest incredible hulk but they do something like it right at the end where he opens his eyes and they are like green/purple. That's what I am trying to accomplish. I know it'll look awesome if I can get it.

Thanks again for replying to the post, and for any help you may be able to offer.

Ok, your using 32bit because you cant use the import video to frames method in 64bit Photoshop.

I presume your using 'File > Export > Render Video...' once you have finished editing to save the new movie.

I did exactly what you explained, converted a video to mp4, import to frames in 32bit PS, edit individual frames and then export (Render Video)
I could not recreate the same freezing problem you have been plagued by.

What the problem might be is you have accidentally created a pause in the video by displaying the same layer over and over again in multiple frames.
Play the video inside of Photoshop before final export using the controls in the animation tab and check that it does not have the same freeze/pause issue.

Another issue that can cause a lot of problems is the 'propagate frame 1' check box in the layers tab. It is an option that causes any adjustments you make to the first frame to be duplicated on to all the other frames.

I hope somehow this info brings forth a solution to your problem.

I totally think that is what I am doing. Creating a pause in the video like you stated. Once I read that it kinda clicked for me in my head. Thank you so much for all your help, time, and patience. I will be trying this later today to see if I can make it work. Much thanks again.
