Is there a way to delete color or in gradiantcy?
to put it simply I want to take an image like this

and erase the red while leaving the black and white fully intact

is it posible?

the resign is this...
i need to make the black and whites 100% and the gray tones in the red 0% transparent

once i have that I can pull this into flash as a 24bit png and do animation of the color changing just underneath the light/dark layer that its on top. this would allow me to work without having to use flash filters to effect the color which gets complicated with animation and other colors introduced into it

I don't think you can do it the way you would like as the highlights and shadows are still shades of red and not really white or black.

I would try using the pen tool to draw around the car body and then converting it to a selection before desaturating it.

Then using the same selection to create a template for the new color.

The template combined with the desaturated car body than can be used inside flash, template on top of car and blending mode applied to the template.
