I find that the brightness / contrast settings satisfy my needs to the degree that I don't need to use the exposure sliders. Am I missing something by not using the exposure settings? |

So far this post has been viewed 17 times and has got zero replies. Is my question that hard or that stupid? |

The latter to be blunt. There is a difference in which application you make the changes to brightness or contrast, RAW makes non linear changes whereas Photoshop not so. In loose terms brightness can be seen as having more of an effect on mid tones and exposure makes a difference on the whole image.
In truth they both make a global difference. It's a subject that Bruce Fraser (RIP) would be all too glad to explain in depth, whereas my time is more limited as is my knowledge. There should be enough reading on the internet though. I still say make your exposure in RAW with the proper clipping points set _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

I don't know specifics either, the last thread i posted in swapping a persons face in an image...
Reminded me that sometimes i have to use the the exposure to get a match on a collage that brightness and contrast can't achieve. |

Thank you for both your replies.
I'm talking about Photoshop CS5 and I work mostly with jpeg images. |

Exposure vs Brightness RAW these guys seem to have a handle on it, basic but easy to understand.
Brightness/Contrast info Just some reading.
I have too much info to really post as it's a surprisingly large subject, whilst seemingly a fairly innocuous subject.
Basics are, Brightness works from middle tones and Exposure evenly distributes based on the clipping points set.
As far as JPEGs go you can take them into RAW if you choose, making any changes is always preferable in RAW rather than Photoshop. Just no layered files into RAW so no trying to take a PSD in. _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |
