hi,
no expert on this butmy thoughts...
1. why did you rule out the bug idea?
2.lens flare idea doesn't match what going on... in my opinion ..
3. i see the an orb of light...
a. appears the camera is still...
b. orb of light moving indepedently and irractically also it fades, very dim at the beginning then it get a little strong in the middel and then sort of fades/ goes dim as if it moving away fromlights and camera.. and the strength of the light orb varies ....
i like the bug idea.. smiling... either that or large particle of dust floating around and it just catches the light just right ... a dust particle can actually float and also rises if the heat varient just right.. |

Thanks for your input.. I had "theoretically" ruled out the bug idea because two professional photographers said that if it was truly a bug, the orb would be black, or have pixels showing black in part of it. If it was dust, why would it appear in the picture instead of just flying into the picture?
Just to add... In the original video, without the quality loss from youtube, the "orb" doesn't fade at all until it gets near the top. It is just hard to see it over the white sheets. |

hi,
first of all were talking theories.. smiling... first though, there quite a few instances where people do get those orbs either with there still cameras or a video cameras.... vast majority of case it particulate maters, reflections of some sort, lens issue , etc....
there 2 basic school of thoughts...
1. vast majority of the orbs generally caused by dust particals .. dust particle close to the lens and out of the depth of view range and hense reflected light become diffuse and looks like a orb... the partical can be outside or inside the camera
picked up this little definition
""""What causes a solid orb? A solid orb, or dust orb, is created because a reflective solid airborne particle, such as a dust particle, is situated near the camera lens and outside the depth of field, in other words out of focus. The pinpoint of light reflected from the dust particle is in focus as accurately as the camera can react to it. The resulting image grows into a circle of confusion that appears like an orb. There are now certain cameras that imploy “dust filters” or electronic filters that turn dust reflections into a bright diamond."""""
note: from what i can find out it appears these orbs come about untill digital camera came out and hense maybe the ccd is a contributing cause..
2, the other is the spritual world.... ghosts orbs ... thisonepops up when there absolutely no other explanations .... very rare really although a lot of people talk about it.....
here a link maybe of interest

this is actually fairly good explanation of things

hi,
your quite welcome....
now if your into video editing .... if you have the right videoeditors...
there plugin that can eleminate that orb.... they work similar to your content aware technology that ps cs4 and 5 uses and a couple of thers...
currently trying to find the right program and plug in that will work with it... it pretty new technology for the consumer although it been avail with your expensive commercial video editors |

Great thanks.. I'll look into that so I could practice removing lighting issues like that for future videos! |

hi,
key words to look for...
seam carving, content aware, liquid rescale they all the same with seam carving being the orginal discription.....
now this link shows you different videos on it involving video editing
http://www.faculty.idc.ac.il/arik/SCWeb/vidret/index.html
for static images
now don't know what version of ps you have... ps call it content aware... cs basically had content aware resizing and cs 5 added content ware fill ...
the free gimp has a free plugin ..... they have two names for it... smiling... so you may want to look at tht...
and i came across a program called vso seam carving..... it for photographers,, don't know how good it is but it freeeeee ......
seam carving not perfect... depending on the image it can give outstanding results and in others well better off using other techniues..
this is an old article.... on vso ..
