Can Photoshop read digital watermarks other than with their plug-in Digimarc? If so, is there any "free" digital watermark websites available?
I know the plug-in for Digimarc is a free download and it has cames with Photoshop since 1996, but their watermarks are not free. However, I did find one website offering free digital watermarks, but my Mac warned me of it being a phishing site, so I paranoidly left that site.

http://www.picture-shark.com is free, i don't think it offers an option to embed a invisible watermark. This is not such a bad thing as..
A Digimarc can be easily be removed, and not being visible leaves no evidence of it ever being there. |

Thanks for the tips, and I understand how visual watermarks are more practical than digital watermarks, but now I am curious to why Photoshop has Digimarc as a Plug-In if it isn't really needed? Maybe in the future this Plug-In will be better updated, and more widely used... perhaps Bridge too? _________________ Once you're at the top, keep climbing! |

I wouldn't say that digimarc isn't needed.
Its more so people have the option of one or the other.
Its is the best protection if you don't want a 'visible' watermark.
IMHO tho, its a flawed system of protecting your images, which in the process of doing so reduces image quality as well because the system uses a faint noise to mark the image. |
