I hope I am posting this in the right forum.

I have been trying to figure out how this look is achieved for over a year now.

#2 Think Icon The picture of the man standing by the board. The image on the right has a cooler background. It appears the blacks have been enhanced. But there is more to this editing than cooling the background and adding black.

If anyone can tell me how this look is achieved I will buy you a beer.

First off, its important to note that the image was edited to include a lot more blank white area to minimize distractions and whites were also made whiter, so there is inherently more contrast.

Secondly, I would have to say that the blacks are enrichened with the curves adjustment tool. The reason I say this is because it is evident, to me, that not just the blacks were enrichened...the darkening carried over to most dark colors in general. Look at the people with brown hair...in the second image the hair is darker. The main character in the image also has darker and richer hair. I don't see that change on the people that had light brown or blonde hair. It might not mean much to you, but to me it sounds like the work of adjusting Curves.

Clicking on any black area in the image will show you where along the chart the color lies. Once you start adjusting the "curve", it will also affect other dark colors in close proximity on the chart.

I agree with Yos.

Here is a lazy way you can use to get the same effect. Big Wink

Image > Adjustments > Levels...

Click the white point eyedropper tool and click on the yellow shadow on the wall.

And your done.
