I have struggled with PS CS5 without any success.
How to split into 2 and create 2 image files from one?
Thanks!

Need a little more information to describe what it is that you need. What do you need to split in two? Do you mean cut in half? create two exact copies of one image? Can you be a little more precise? _________________ http://www.jmerrittphotorestoration.com/ |

Just to split 1 picture into 2 near half size image files with different names. I mean cut into 2 halves.
1. I created layer from mask but couldn't find any command to save layer as different image file.
2. When creating layer from mask, the mask is removed. How to restore mask and inverse it, to get other layer of the image opposite site? |

I have been wonderiong around in CS5 menus but no success and I have searched for suitable tutorials, but when I create a mask doesn't PS support command "create new image from layer"? How do I create mask onto base image of the same size as one I created layer? Then I could invert mask and create second image of remaining part.
Thanks! |

I'm afraid that I'm looking for something what Photoshop still doesn't have and single solution is just crop and save, open crop and save. Is it correct? |

Your on the right track, dont give up. Heres what I would do..If I wanted to select exactly half of an image, I would use the rectangular marquee tool and draw a box around the one half that I wanted to keep. Once oyu have a selection, click on the Layers tab, then select New Layer from copy. That will create a another layer with only half of the image in it. Do the same with the other side and you should have three layers...the original and one of each side. Then I would simply uncheck the visibility icons, in the Layers palette on the right, to hide all layers but one. Then, Go to file and select Save As and give it a new name.
You should be able to save each layer as a completely different image if you hide all the other layers first. _________________ http://www.jmerrittphotorestoration.com/ |

The crop tool will only make things more difficult unless you fully understand how to use it. I dont even use the crop tool when I want to crop something. Instead, I use the technique I mentioned earlier.....select the area I want to keep with one of the marquee tools, then select Image/Crop. That will create a new layer with the selected area without resizing it. _________________ http://www.jmerrittphotorestoration.com/ |
