Hello all, I am new here and a complete beginner. I'm not even sure about the lingo, so I'm not sure if my thread title is proper. Hard to articulate but here goes....

I'm sure you've all used dvd and cd label makers. These programs allow me to pull up a circle shape template with a donut hole to make dvd and cd labels. I can load pictures into the circle and adjust everything until it's just the way I like it. So what do you call what I just described, a label template? Is that correct?

Anyway, I don't want to make cd or dvd labels, but by describing that, now you know what I'm trying to accomplish. I want to make stickers, they will be circle and ovals. I want to be able to load my sticker graphics into these shapes and be able to adjust it just the way I like it, and then print it out.

How do I do this? Right now, in my exploratory phase, I tried scanning an oval shape. But obviously it's not a template, the irfan software sees it as a normal jpeg photo with 90 degree corners.

Please advise as to everything I need including your recommendation for software. Right now, I don't have an photoshop software. I use paint or a free one called IRFAN. Thank you for your time.

I'll point you in the right direction...look into shape layers and vector masks.

But, as a Photoshop beginner, you're trying to run before you've learned to walk. You really should start by learning all the basics and the terminologies before you try to anything else.

Thanks Hawkeye! But I need a little more direction. What software do you recommend to learn about about shape layers and vector masks?
